Rep. Benefield Helps Families & Kids

(DENVER) – A bill that makes it easier for parents seeking financial aid for their children passed out of the House today 64-0-1.

HB 1028, sponsored by Rep. Debbie Benefield (D-Arvada), makes the process of finding child care and education services easier on families by establishing an Early Childhood Universal Application. This will not only will save parents time and energy, but it will also streamline the application process and lead to better government efficiency.

“This is about supporting families and making life easier in times of need,” said Rep. Benefield. “When a family needs help, they should be able to get it quickly and not have to jump through a bunch of hoops.”

Currently, when a parent applies for aid, they’re forced to fill out separate applications for each type of aid they’re seeking. HB 1028 creates a commission comprised of representatives from every department or entity that has an application that a parent must fill out when seeking any kind of financial aid.  The job of this commission will be to create one form that all departments and entities will use. Parents will then only have to fill out one universal form one time.
