Rep. Benefield Serves Colorado Children On Two State Panels

(DENVER) – State Representative Debbie Benefield (D-Arvada) was recently reappointed by Speaker of the House Terrance Carroll to serve on two important panels, both aimed at educating Colorado youth.  Rep. Benefield will be part of the 11-member Read to Achieve Board, as well as the 16-member review committee for the Tobacco Education, Prevention, and Cessation Grant Program.

The Read to Achieve Board assists the state Department of Education with administering the Read to Achieve Grant Program.  The program funds research-based, intensive reading programs for kindergarten through third-grade students.

The Tobacco Education, Prevention, and Cessation Grant Program was established to reduce the initiation of and promote the cessation of tobacco use among children and youth.  It provides funding for community-based and statewide tobacco education programs.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve on these two important boards,” said Rep. Benefield.  “As an active PTA member, I fully understand the importance of helping our kids succeed both inside and outside of the classroom.”
