COLORADO HOUSE DEMOCRATIC OFFICE
STATE CAPITOL
Sex Offenders No Longer Able to Register to Mobile Vehicles
DENVER- Soon, sex offenders who live in trailers or motor homes will have to register at those residential addresses, just as offenders who live in houses or apartments do. They will no longer be able to use a vehicle as their place of residence.
State Representative Debbie Benefield (D-Arvada) portrayed her bill (HB07-1067) as “tough on crime,” and it was clear from testimony that Colorado residents, no matter what kind of structure they live in, want to know if there is a convicted sex offender living nearby.
“This will help neighborhood groups be more informed, it helps protect our citizens, and it is just plain common sense,” Rep. Benefield said. “I’m surprised that this loophole existed that allowed convicted sex offenders to simply register with the vehicle’s description but without a land address. Many Coloradans will sleep better at night when my bill is passed.”
